“The LORD said to Moses, ‘I have heard the grumblings of the Israelites. Tell them, At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.’”

Exodus 16:11
Once, during my rebellious teen years, I was riding on an airplane which dropped suddenly. Terrified, I promised God that if He saved my life, I’d start obeying Him. The Lord has heard many a desperate prayer like this from people who think God’s provision is contingent on our obedience.

The Israelites believed a similar lie. Though God miraculously rescued them from slavery, they became suspicious of Him and concluded that He’d brought them to the desert to kill them. Their unbelief was a grievous sin against Him.

Yet God provided manna for them. Instead of being grateful, they disobeyed again, gathering more than He commanded and worrying about their well being. Amazingly, while God took their sin seriously, He still provided for them.

What kind of God does that? The kind who gave His only Son. Jesus, the ultimate bread from heaven, suffered the punishment we deserve for our unbelief. He is God’s provision for the forgiveness of sins. Since He has given us His Son, rest assured He’ll provide everything you need.
