“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Matthew 6:26
Week after week of empty toilet paper shelves. That was the COVID-19 pandemic image many of us faced last year. At that time I realized how quickly I could lose the ability to provide even basic necessities for myself and my family.

Hundreds of hilarious memes later, the shelves filled back up, and we were never forced to resort to extremes. But the reality that we might be unable to provide for ourselves remains, and it can cause real anxiety. What if we run out of food? What if I lose my job? What if…? What if…?

Jesus gives the answer to all of our “what ifs.” He says you don’t have to worry because your heavenly Father has promised to provide for you. He argues from the lesser to the greater. See how God abundantly feeds the birds and clothes the flowers? You are much more valuable to Him than they are, and He will take care of you.

So let go of your “what ifs” today. Your trust in your heavenly Father’s provision honors and glorifies Him. Free from anxiety, you can focus on God’s kingdom and His righteousness.
