“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12
A country that doesn’t realize it’s at war is not equipped to fight.

In World War 2, Russia made a pact with Hitler, not knowing that he was preparing to invade. Warnings to Stalin went unheeded until Hitler invaded. As a result, one month later, more than 5,000,000 Russian soldiers were killed, wounded, or captured.

As Christians, we too are at war; we’re in a battle against the devil (James 4:7) and the powers of darkness. But the General, our heavenly Father, has not sent us into battle alone. It’s as if Jesus is our personal transmitter to the General’s headquarters —our war time walkie-talkie. Our prayers go with exactly such connection to Him.

Here is something more to consider: “Could it be that many of our problems with prayer and much of our weakness in prayer comes from the fact that we are not all on active duty, and yet we try to use the transmitter? We have taken a war time walkie-talkie and tried to turn it into a civilian intercom to call the servant for another cushion in the den” (John Piper, 1986).
