“The bolts of your gates will be iron and bronze, and your strength will equal your days.”

Deuteronomy 33:25
As your days, so shall your strength be. It would be worrisome if we had to rely on our strength alone. If God is promising that we will have strength, there is probably a reason we will need strength. But in Asher’s blessing from today’s Scripture reading, God assures him that He alone is Asher’s help. God refers to Himself as Asher’s refuge, and assures him that He will traverse the heavens to help him. We see from the continuation of the passage that God is the source of Asher’s strength. He is the One ensuring Asher’s preservation and maintaining his security.

This blessing was pronounced over the tribe of Asher by Moses. However, I believe it can be applied to the believer today as well. It’s not that we are promised a “land of grain and new wine,” but that our shield and helper will support and sustain us. Christ defeated our ultimate enemies: sin and death. As a result, we can rest in that work. And we know that while we will have trouble in the here and now, He is faithful to supply the strength for all of our days.
