“You who answer prayer, to you all men will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.”

Psalm 65:2-3
What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is yours. I know that’s how life is in the Department of Corrections. But that’s not how the Christian life works. When God saves you, He doesn’t save you into a vacuum-sealed tube that goes only from you to Him up in heaven. No, He saves you out of the world and into a family, the church.

When we think about prayer, we tend to think about our private conversations between just us and God. But notice the very first word in the Lord’s Prayer: “Our.” The language of the prayer goes on to use “us” and “we.” These are not the words of an individual praying. These are the words of a group of people praying … and praying throughout the generations of time. Here’s the point: The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer for all God’s people.

While it’s true that private prayer is important, so is praying with others. I would testify that praying with others can be hard when you’re locked up. But if you know of any other Christians you can pray with, make it a point now to pray with and for each other.

Insight

Like most things in life, prayer is better when we can do it with others. So find one person, or ten people, and commit to praying regularly with them.
