“In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

Ephesians 1:5
We know that the Lord’s Prayer is for all the children of God’s family. So how are we received into the family of God? How do we go from being spiritual orphans to children of light? Answer: through adoption.

Before we came to know Christ, we were spiritually homeless. Satan had taken us into his evil orphanage, and there we sat, as destitute as a mangy dog in a filthy cage at the pound, waiting to be put out of his misery.

“But because of his great love for us, God … made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions” (Ephesians 2:4). He set His heart on us, looking at us in our broken, miserable state, and saying, “I love you. Come home and be with me. I will be your Father; you will be my child. My name will be your name. My house will be your house. My family will be your family. You will have all the rights and responsibilities that come with being a member of my household.”

God didn’t save us because He had to. He saved us because He wanted to. That’s the wondrous love and grace of our Father!

If you’re in a correctional institution, you probably won't be treated better than you deserve. But if you’re in Christ, you’re treated infinitely better than you deserve.
