“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.’”

John 6:35
In the same way that you need daily bread to live, you need perpetual forgiveness to live eternally. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus—your daily bread—has given that to you.

In order for you to live, you must feed on Christ and His perfect, once-for-all sacrifice. Jesus says so Himself, speaking in strong metaphorical words in John 6:53-56: “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.”

These are striking images. Think of the best meal you’ve ever had; the delight of the flavors, the satisfaction of being filled by it, the lingering memory of that taste. Jesus wants you to savor Him even more than you would the most magnificent food you could imagine. Feast on His goodness and His forgiveness, your true sustenance.
