“When [Jesus] found him, he said, ‘Do you believe in the Son of Man?’ … Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped him.”

John 9:35, 38
Jesus encountered a blind man, went to him, and healed him. Also involved in the story were Jesus’ disciples, various neighbors, the Pharisees, and the blind man’s parents. The Pharisees had “hurled insults” (v. 28) at this healed man and “threw him out” (v. 34). When we read of the one-on-one interactions between the man and Jesus, we see Jesus’ tenderness and concern.

Several eternal principles are tucked into this passage. First, we are reminded to do God’s work while there is time. Jesus states, “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me” (v. 4). Time is limited and precious. Serving Christ is a priority.

Second, Jesus states, “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (v. 5). Jesus brought life and hope to those surrounded by darkness. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Third, life was not easy for this blind man, but Jesus took the initiative to rescue and heal him. Jesus is available to walk with us through every difficulty of life. And you can be sure that God will be glorified in it!

Jesus approaches, takes the initiative, and reaches into your life to rescue you. He gives His personal, one-on-one presence through the Holy Spirit.
