“When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And Moses said, ‘Here I am.’ ‘Do not come any closer … for you are standing [on] holy ground.’”

Exodus 3:4-5
Moses had run off to escape his problems, and now here he was, on the “far side of the desert” (3:1), a long ways from where he’d been raised in Egypt. God intended to use him to redeem His people.

In the desert, heat was not unusual, but a flaming bush unaltered by the fire? That caught Moses’ attention! How much more so when he heard the voice of the Lord coming from it! Moses found himself one-on-one in the presence of the living God on the back side of the desert.

Moses’ life changed forever. There on holy ground before the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, he was already being transformed from a runaway to a leader. He’d raised objections about the plan, but each was answered. The God of the burning bush and the lowly man He would call His friend soon moved an entire people out of Egypt, through the Red Sea, and into the Promised Land.

God often calls us to difficult tasks, but assures us of His presence and provision. He is the great “I AM,” the One who gives exactly what we need for accomplishing His work.
