“‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May it be to me as you have said.’ Then the angel left her.”

Luke 1:38
When we recall biblical accounts of “divine interruptions,” the angel’s appearance to Mary comes to mind. On a commonplace day, she was informed that she would give birth to the coming Messiah. We marvel at the young girl’s willingness to answer the call while she didn’t fully comprehend all it would require. What Mary did has inspired many Christ followers to answer God’s call on their lives without full knowledge of future outcomes.

In 1828, 23-year-old George Müller took note of the dire conditions of orphaned British children left on the streets to die of hunger and disease. He began to ponder the meaning of life and study Scripture. Psalm 81:10 became a summons to action for him: “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.” Müller trusted God to use him and would move forward alone in faith, never raising funds or making needs known to anyone. In his lifetime He cared for 10,024 orphans, every child well-provided for by the goodness of the Lord.

God may interrupt your life, too. Will you be His obedient servant?
