“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

John 17:17
After spending two days leading a seminar for prison seminary students in Cañon City, Colorado, the “Corrections Capital of the World,” I was spiritually filled to bursting. The four long teaching sessions left me feeling alive rather than exhausted. I believe it was the power of God’s Spirit working through His true Word that revived me as well as those inmates.
When the students dug deeply into God’s Word and engaged not only with my words but also with the words of their fellow inmates, we were all encouraged. The Holy Spirit works mightily through the Word to sanctify or transform us more and more into the image of Christ. What abundant fellowship is experienced when we long for nothing but the truth of knowing the Father’s love for us!
Despite the fact that most of the men I was with will never set foot beyond those prison walls, they live as free men knowing the truth of the Father’s powerful Word of love to them in His Son Jesus Christ. It’s your truth, too. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
