So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Galatians 4:7

Being in prison gave Simon plenty of time to think about who he was and what he had become. He reflected considerably on his own identity and concluded that he was a monster. When Simon looked at his reflection in the mirror, he saw a wicked criminal who had left numerous victims in the wake of his destructive behavior.

In the prison Bible study, Simon found another way to define himself. It was certainly a process, but in time he was able to find his identity in Christ instead of in his bad choices. Through his belief in the Son of God, Simon became one of God’s sons, someone truly worth saving. Key Bible verses and Christian songs helped reinforce this new way of thinking. In Christ, he could not only receive a transformed identity but also receive a brand new start.

Christ died a horrific death so that monstrous sinners like us could be made new. He died on the cross to transform us into redeemed creations. By believing in the atoning work of the Son of God, we’re brought into His family. What a blessing that is!
