“Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”

Exodus 34:14
Me… worship idols? An idol is something you see in a museum or a movie; something made of wood, stone, or precious metal; something worshipped by primitive people, right? Consider this: Worship is part of the created nature, and every human being testifies to it. If we don’t worship the one true God, we will worship something. In fact, just about anything can become an idol for us.

To get what we want, we all make sacrifices and surrender our wills to the things we worship. We might give up our time or forfeit our integrity to money and influence, thinking doing so will bring peace. We’re even willing to surrender these lesser idols to serve today’s greatest idol: an idealized version of ourselves.

The Lord alone is God and will not let anyone else take His place. He is jealous, but He also is loving. He died for our sins so we can have a relationship with Him. Only Jesus can give meaning to our lives, hope beyond struggle, and eternal peace. He loves us too much to let us pursue those things anywhere else than in Him.
