“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10
A note with regard to this verse in the Disciple’s Study Bible says, “God the transcendent Creator is intimately related to His people by His personal presence, helping us through troubled times.” While Isaiah is writing about a nation, he is also speaking to the individuals of that nation, reminding them that they could find peace in their God. In God’s perfect providence, these words speak to us today, too.

I have often brought these words to my own heart in times of uncertainty, and I’ve shared this truth with many whose lives I’ve touched—an older gentleman unable to get around, a family gathered at the hospital bedside of a loved one, even friends and relatives in their varying crises.

Eugene Peterson’s The Message paraphrases Isaiah 41:10 this way: “Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear, for I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady, keep a firm grip on you.” Isn’t that beautiful imagery? When you are sinking in fear, remember that you are firmly in the grip of your heavenly Father.
