“Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed.”

2 Thessalonians 2:1-2a
The coming of Jesus—the true return of the King—is what we’re all looking forward to. Creation itself “waits in eager expectation” (Romans 8:19). But because Satan loves to cast us into fear and doubt, we can assume that he will try to rattle our hope. He’ll attempt to convince us that the day of the Lord has already come or that we might miss it if we’re not careful. Or more likely, he’ll ease our minds into not concerning ourselves about it at all.

Satan may use powerful means to shake us. Some of those means have become a reality in your lives. But Paul is telling the Thessalonians in advance and even is speaking to us in 2021—to ignore this stuff and instead pay attention to what he is saying now, words inspired by the Holy Spirit.

This is a reminder to us that we must heed the Word of God which alone can settle our faith and keep us from alarm. Heavenly things cannot be discerned by logical deductions from nature and certainly not from the lies of the devil. Daily we wait with eager expectation for Jesus’ return.
