"No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from
the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do
men pour new wine into old wineskins."
(MATTHEW 9:16-17A)

Matthew 9:16-17
Patching holes in clothes is a time-honored way to save money. With a needle and a little thread, we can extend the life of clothing that would otherwise be doomed to the trash heap. But while patches are helpful for clothing, they can’t fix everything in life.

Some people spend their entire lives trying to patch up their damaged areas. However, failed resolutions, broken promises, and unconquered habits prove we need more than repairs. We need to be made new. When we give our lives to Christ, that is exactly what He does for us. He doesn’t just patch up the rips and tears. Through His indwelling Spirit, He brings new life to our dead spirits. Then, as we submit to the Holy Spirit minute by minute and day by day, He uses the rest of our lives to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ.

We can waste our time trying to patch up our old lives – trying harder, but getting nowhere. Or we can receive the gift of salvation that only Christ can bring…and be made brand new.
