“LORD, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

Psalm 90:1-2
Do you fear for your future or the future of your children? I suspect we are all anxious concerning what lies ahead. The present seems chaotic enough! As believers in Jesus Christ, we must not give in to a notion that this age is somehow an accident of God’s providence which has escaped His sovereign control.

If we have, it’s time to repent of this distrust. The Lord has been our dwelling place in all generations. Was there a darker night than that on which Jesus was crucified? But that night beckons a future day when our risen Savior wipes every tear from our eye. He means for us to count afflictions as joy and to number our days for the sake of our wisdom (see v. 12).

If the world as we know it is no accident, then we need not fear. God’s perfect plan is in order. Just as He ruled that dark night some two millennia ago, how much more does He rule the present day of our anguish? We say with the psalmist, “Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen trouble” (v. 15).
