“God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”

Hebrews 13:5
Despite leaps in technology that connect us now more than ever, loneliness and suicide rates have soared in the past 20 years. And loneliness has exploded into an epidemic even among young adults.

Caregivers and their patients are also vulnerable to loneliness. The daily—and even hourly—needs of the patient can be physically demanding. I can recall feeling so physically and emotionally drained at times that I just did not have the energy to cultivate relationships with others.

Before Jesus’ ascension, He made a promise that is familiar to many of us: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). This “always” is for every child of God.

Paul wrote, “Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

The Holy Spirit of God indwells us so we will never be alone. What a precious promise!
