“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

Proverbs 27:1
Any casual reader of the news is familiar with the many bold predictions made daily in headlines. Political, economic, and social pundits often seem remarkably confident about their future projections.

But you don’t have to be a news anchor or stock picker to fall into that temptation. Every day we take actions (or refrain from action) based upon the assumption that we will have more time tomorrow. We postpone important conversations. We say words we will later regret, believing we’ll always have time to make up for them. We spend, confident that the income we enjoy today will continue.

True wisdom acknowledges that only God knows and holds the future. As Christians awaiting the return of Christ, we can anticipate the future with confidence and joy. Jesus’ return is really the one certain thing about our future. But anything short of that, we must speak, plan, spend, and save always under the banner of “if the Lord wills.”

Lord willing, the day will come soon when He returns for us and makes all things right.
