“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Hebrews 4:16
Over the years, I have found that my confidence in finding and catching fish has grown. Initially, I was unsure of the techniques, wondered if I would be any good at the sport, and worried about whether I belonged among other experienced anglers. With every fishing trip, I learned something new. I became more familiar with the skills and how I could use them. My confidence and entire attitude changed from anxious to relaxed. With each success, I was better able to approach opportunities without worry and with more freedom and joy. That’s how it is for us in just about anything we experience over time.

When we approach God, seeking His mercy and grace, we come to know one of the most liberating aspects of the gospel: we can come to Him and receive grace. We can do this because it is not based on our track record, but on Jesus’! Our confidence is in the perfect work of Jesus and His compassionate heart for us. At His throne of grace, our sympathetic high priest frees us from our self-confidence, worries, fears, and sins.
