“I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”

Titus 3:8
Paul asked Titus to develop discipleship in the church on the island of Crete. Like Christians today, the people there faced the common enemies of the world: the flesh and the devil. In response to this spiritual warfare, the goal in ministry, then as well as now, was to have “the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life” (1:1-2).

The world is fractured in many ways, and Christians are often labeled irrelevant or extreme. To counter this, we must live our Christian faith well.

First, speak and act with love and respect. Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). Second, stay focused in faith like Daniel who “got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God” (Daniel 6:10). Third, remember Jesus prayed to His Father, “not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one” (John 17:15). Finally, know that we have been made right through the grace of God and now are heirs with the hope of eternal life (3:7).
