For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16
When I started serving at the Newton Prison in Iowa, I spoke with José, the chapel clerk. He told me the three most important words on the prison yard were, “Jesus loves you.” I’ve seen firsthand how these life-giving words change men who desperately need to know God’s love for them. But these words are extremely valuable outside the prison walls, as well.

While José serves a lengthy prison sentence, he continues in his duties as chapel clerk. The years go by, and he continues telling other inmates that Jesus loves them; they need to hear it again and again. External circumstances may bring questions to mind: Can God still love someone like me in prison? Can God love me after all that I’ve done?

Do you know that Jesus loves you no matter where you are or what sins you’ve committed? He loves you on the mountain and in the valley, inside prison walls and beyond. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases” (Lamentations 3:22). Unlike imperfect human love, God’s unfailing love is flawless. His grace knows no bounds.
