“The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God.”

1 Corinthians 8:3
Over time, the New Life Prison Community team and I have built trust with prison staff. They recognize our faces and know our names. On one occasion a volunteer forgot to bring his driver’s license, the required identification for visiting in the prison. We knew the corrections officer at the front desk, so we thought it was worth a try to ask if this volunteer might enter without his ID.

Once we were in the prison lobby, the volunteer approached the front desk to explain his problem. The officer thought it would be permissible for him to attend the prison Bible study, but first needed the approval of a supervisor. He called the shift captain and said, “This man forgot his ID, but I’ve seen him a thousand times, and I can vouch for him.” We breathed a sigh of relief.

It’s important to know God, but it’s even more important to be known by God. He knows you more deeply than you know yourself. God knows your face; He knows your name; He knows your thoughts. Surely He vouches for you because of the saving work of Jesus.
