“One witness is not enough to convict a man accused of any crime or offense he may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

Deuteronomy 19:15
People are fascinated with crime and punishment. In the reality television shows or true-life movies we watch, we often hope to see the guilty captured and punished, the innocent vindicated. Quick internet searches can add extra explanations and specifics in these accounts where sometimes the guilty go free or the innocent suffer. Though we think we know just who the good guys and bad guys are, we don’t know every detail of these stories.

It is a comfort to be assured that our criminal justice system—admittedly imperfect—is not all there is. We don’t always get all of the facts, and the loudest voices are not always telling the truth. God’s law required more than one witness to make a testimony valid. It is harder to get two people to agree on a lie than for two to attest to the truth.

There is even greater comfort for you. Your all-knowing Savior testifies before the court of our omniscient, almighty God, claiming us as His own and presenting us as guiltless of all sin because of His sacrifice on our behalf.
