“At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.”

Revelation 4:2
The concept of heaven has always been present in art—in paintings and sculptures, in movies and books, in poems and songs. Yet all those references and images pale in comparison to what the Bible reveals to us about heaven. Revelation 4 and 5 paint a spectacular vision of heaven which was given to seven 1st century churches struggling with persecution and worldliness.

Within these chapters, we see God on His throne with a wide array of creatures worshiping Him. We hear, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come.” But how did this vision help the ancient church plagued by suffering and sin? Their eyes were turned heavenward to see the necessity of worshiping God no matter what the circumstances were in their lives.

Chapter 5 reveals the Lion of Judah and the Lamb who was slain, clearly Jesus the Messiah who provided a way for sinners to worship God. When we see a “bigger view” of who God is and what Jesus has done for us, we can’t help but worship. It’s central to our daily lives now and will be forever more!
