“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering..”

Hebrews 13:2-3
During the Great Depression, my grandmother always had a pot of soup cooking on the back of the stove to feed drifters who came to her door from the railroad tracks behind her property. She took this Hebrews 13 passage seriously.

What you do for others may seem small and insignificant to you, but God rejoices in what is right, not necessarily in what is big. Be faithful in the small opportunities. Begin where you are and do what you can. Then leave the results to Him. It may be only small seeds you are scattering, but they are seeds the Lord is causing to grow.

Smiling to the stranger you meet, letting another person go first at the supermarket, helping someone find a lost item, praying for the people around you at the traffic light, just taking the time to call a friend on the telephone to say you have been thinking about them… all of these little things mean so much. What some may call “random acts of kindness” are actually the very deliberate ways the Holy Spirit works through us to touch the lives of others.
