“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Isaiah 9:2
A few years ago I visited my daughter and her family while they were stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan. They had told me that the view of Mount Fuji from their apartment was spectacular. But by the end of my first week’s visit, I had still not seen this great mountain because of the thick blanket of fog which kept it covered. I was finding it hard to believe it was really there at all! Then one morning the fog lifted, and there before us was that awesome, majestic sight: Mount Fuji bathed in sunlight. Its beauty and immensity were almost surreal.

Remembering how I first saw Mount Fuji makes me think of people around us who do not believe in Jesus. They just don’t see Him. He is hidden from their sight, so they live in darkness.

Jesus told us that we are the “light of the world.” As we live our ordinary lives in this dark world, may the truth of God’s light shine through us so that the fog of unbelief will lift. When the light of Jesus dawns on someone’s heart, may they see our Father and stand in awe of His majesty.
