“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Psalm 16:11
During the last couple of winters in my area of the country, we have had some unseasonably warm days. One January afternoon, I sat on my back deck in the sunshine, watching the birds flocking around the feeders. As I listened to their chatter, I felt the presence of God all around me. I remembered that He cares for even the tiny sparrow, and I’m certain He cares for me, too. In that time of reflection and solitude, I knew the feeling of being filled with His joy.

The cares of the world and the busyness of our lives usually occupy us with a host of things that may or may not be important. Sometimes it is good to step back and just be still. Jesus also cherished those quiet times with His Father and often stole away to be alone with Him.

Our service to God does not necessarily have to be in doing. Perhaps our greatest service to Him is when we come aside and rest in His presence, enjoy His company, and acknowledge that He is God. You’ll find that in the times of being alone with Him, you gain strength for the journey.
