"After Jesus was born... Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.'"
(Matthew 2:1-2)

Jeremiah 23:5-6
Two years or so after Jesus’ birth, Magi, wise men, completed their long journey from Persian lands in the east to Bethlehem. What little we know of them is that they were intelligent, influential, educated and wealthy. Students of the heavens, the Magi had studied the path of a special star heralding a future event of great significance. That event would be the birth of a Jewish king. At last, they had arrived to pay their respects and shower Jesus with gifts.

Note the disciplined commitment of these men from distant lands. They were not of Jewish descent. They were captivated by the prophecy of Jesus’ coming and also expended themselves to seek and worship Him. No doubt their travels were uncomfortable, expensive and time consuming. But they trusted they would be
rewarded at the end…as are all who truly seek Jesus.

Years later, Israel’s powerful religious rulers sought out our Lord only to trap or condemn Him. What a contrast to the honor and respect brought by the Magi! Oh, that we would share their wisdom!
