“[God] testified …: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.”

Acts 13:22-23
David was a warrior, a poet, a man of heart, and a man of action. Some 1,000 years before Christ, he reigned as the king of Israel in what is known as Israel’s “Golden Age.” David was the most successful military leader the nation ever had. He also wrote nearly half of the book of Psalms. Imagine the Lord Himself referring to you as “a man after my own heart” as He did with David!

Jesus was the eternal son of God before the creation of the world, but was born as a baby in Bethlehem, David’s hometown. He fulfilled God’s promise to David that He would never fail to have a Son on the throne. He came to be all David was and more, conquering sin, death, and evil. He fulfilled the prophecies of many of the psalms, and He showed us God’s heart by giving up His own life to save His people.

This same Jesus, the Son of God, was a man of heart and a man of action, victorious through suffering, now reigning in heaven to exercise His love and power on our behalf. In your compassionate advocate, you could have no better king.
