“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’”

John 11:25-26
What would it take to set your world right? A little extra cash? A better job? Maybe more education? Or is it a person you are waiting for? A soul-mate, or even just a friend?

The Jewish people of Jesus’ day were waiting for the Messiah. The word is Hebrew for “Christ,” and means “anointed.” He would be a prophet like Moses, and a king like David. He would perfect their worship and re-establish their political independence.

But the Jesus who came was not the Messiah they expected. He was born into poverty, and after a brief time of ministry, was publicly executed. The people wanted Him to improve their lives, but He came to save their lives! They wanted to be protected from other people’s sins; He came to forgive them of their own sins. He is Prophet and King, but also the Son of God. The executed One rose again from the dead.

Sometimes we expect too little from Jesus. Don’t just let Him fix your life. Believe that He has come from God to save you from sin and give you new life, now and for eternity.
