“Since I have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you.”

Luke 1:2
I look forward to meeting fellow historian Luke one day. Not only did he write the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, but he is also the author of the only inspired church history book in the New Testament, Acts. Most believe that Luke was a physician. The Holy Spirit used his analytical mind to carefully investigate and document the story of Jesus and the growth of His church.

Luke explained right off that he was writing a narrative based on what “eyewitnesses and servants of the word” had told him. He wanted “to write an orderly account” so we could know with “certainty” that these things had happened. You might say he was Jehovah’s Journalist! Most believe he wrote his gospel and the Acts of the Apostles as one complete book.

I’m thankful for Dr. Luke’s diligent research. His God-inspired history book inspires us to live out the gospel in our own lives, “boldly and without hindrance” (Acts 28:31). Carefully investigate all you’ve read about Jesus. You too will find reality, truth, and comfort in knowing Him.

Insight

Search out and investigate wisdom, as the writer of Ecclesiastes did. You’ll find the world to hold little meaning compared to knowing Jesus.
