“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD establishes his steps.”

Proverbs 16:9
My mother-in-law’s dementia gave her an inability to recognize boundaries. That meant constant disruptions for me as I tried to work from home while caring for her. I longed to just finish a train of thought or complete a task, uninterrupted!

In the gospel books we read that Jesus often made time for those who interrupted His plans. One woman was so desperate for healing that she ventured through the crowd to touch the edge of His cloak. Though Jesus was intending to heal the synagogue leader’s child, He stopped for this interruption and not only healed the woman, but also blessed her.

Another interruption is recorded in John 8. While Jesus was teaching, Pharisees came to question Him (vv. 12-30). Jesus allowed their intrusion so that He could correct them and extend mercy to the adulteress they tried to judge.

Caregiving interrupts our schedules. We reorder our plans and priorities to care for those who need us. Praise God that our myriad of cries to the Lord for help never bother or interrupt Him. He delights to care for us!
