As each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

Romans 12:5
A part of her local congregation, Glenda is also a New Life Prison Community volunteer. After her first visit to a prison Bible study, she asked if she could come again. Soon her husband Dwight also volunteered. Like many of those who become a part of churches inside of prisons, they would tell you that the blessing they receive is far greater than the blessing they give.

What is your concept of “church”? Must it include an impressive program with services at particular times? Is the church the bricks and mortar, or is it the people? The church is the body of Christ. Through the Holy Spirit, we understand the idea of “church” more fully. Consider the church in broader categories: whenever or wherever believers gather to worship, pray, and fellowship.

The next time you go to a service, bring to mind bodies of believers worshipping secretly in closed countries, meeting in someone’s house or hut, or gathering behind prison walls. Wherever two or three are gathered in the Lord’s name, there He is (see Matthew 18:20).
