“I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. … You have made known to me the path of life; you fill me with … eternal pleasures.”

Psalm 16:8, 11
As an artist, I’m fascinated by things many don’t at first understand: roadside tangles of undergrowth, untended gardens, weeds breaking through cracks of concrete. These all echo a story in my heart and adjust my errant perspectives. Even imperfect, invasive weeds and vines, sprouting or decaying, illustrate God’s always-loving intentions for us.

I find beauty in portraying the intricacies of God’s design in life cycles, growth patterns, and nature’s interconnectedness. It’s in these images that we are told of common grace—life beyond death as a seed, buried to bring new life. Though Adam and Eve sinned and creation became cursed, there has always been a way in, up, and through life’s challenges, even beyond inevitable, physical death. We are not without sure hope in a glorious reunion with God in eternity.

A prophet of Christ through art, I aspire to lift the veil and tell God’s truth through the ordinary and extraordinary. I pray each new view of my paintings will open eyes and hearts to see eternal light through the tangles.
