“One thing I ask from the LORD …: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”

Psalm 27:4
Psalm 27 is my favorite of the 150 psalms. What a powerful thought: living in our Father’s presence for eternity! Now that my own wife has recently gone on to be in the presence of Jesus, I think even more about the wonders of heaven such as she knows.

But this Psalm of David is a great encouragement to us each day of our lives here on earth, as well. I have often used this verse in counseling younger people, advising them to take time to enter His presence. We live in a world of anger and hatred. But with God at our side, we can bring love and joy to it. With the Lord as our light and our salvation, whom shall we fear (see v. 1)? Even if our own father or mother forsakes us, the Lord will receive us (see v. 10).

I came to Christ as my Savior as a young boy in a little church in Wisconsin and have spent my whole life walking with Him. I’ve found that the Lord is always faithful and keeps all His promises. “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” (v. 13). Seek Him, and you will too!
