“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Colossians 2:6-7
The evil one is tenacious, always trying to derail us “through hollow and deceptive philosophy.” But Jesus Christ is far more steadfast, and we are rooted in Him. What a comfort for life!

This Colossians passage has been a stronghold for the groups who have gathered in our home for Bible study and prayer. We’ve spoken often about how easily our thoughts are taken captive if we’re not focused on Jesus.

As a police chaplain, I used to ride now and then with Jody, one of our state troopers. My first night out with him was fascinating. He was a deeply committed believer, the kind of Christ follower Paul wrote of: faithful, rooted, built up, and strengthened through Jesus. He would make routine traffic stops and issue warnings or citations if needed. Then as the motorist drove away, he would pray for him or her. And he did this every time!

My friend was familiar with the heart of the Savior, at home enough with Him to bring even total strangers before God in prayer. Would you be inclined to do that? Perhaps you could try doing so today.
