“You became imitators of us and of the Lord…. And so you became a model to all the believers.”

1 Thessalonians 1:6-7
Imagine how hard life would be if you had to learn everything by yourself. You’d try to figure out how to read, swim, or cook with no instruction at all. Today I learned from my daughter’s teacher that 4-1=3 and 5+2=7 are “combinations” (which I had only thought of previously as “math facts”!). Without the trainer from my Bible software company, I would have had a much harder time searching for Hebrew words. Instructors teach us new things all the time.

The same is true for our spiritual lives. God did not leave us floundering and trying to learn on our own without a teacher. He gave us His inspired Word filled with the stories of real people who would help us know the difference between the fool and the wise man. Scriptures teach us how to trust God when we’re afraid, or how to bless and pray for our enemies.

Paul speaks of how the Holy Spirit reveals God’s truths in the Bible and teaches them to us through the lives of believers. It’s one of the many gifts we receive from Him and in turn give to others.
