“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. … all things were created by him and for him.”

Colossians 1:15-16
Existential thinkers explore issues related to the meaning and value of human existence. Nearly everything written since the beginning of time has wrestled to some degree with the big questions of life: who am I, and why am I here?

In the Bible we find meaning, purpose, and comfort for our lives. But even as Christians, we ask those existential questions repeatedly. It’s as if we have some sort of philosophical amnesia.

My friend Travis, 27, has a wisdom that could surpass many brilliant thinkers. He has Down syndrome. He lost his dad a few years ago, so he and his mom have known grief. But Travis explains clearly and succinctly why he loves Jesus: “Because He is God and Lord of the world.” If that doesn’t cut to the heart of our existential angst, I don’t know what does!

Jesus is God. He is, as one person in the trinity, the eternal, preexistent Creator. This same Jesus now rules as Lord of the world. In Him we find the answers to all our questions. We are created by God, for God. And we live to share His love with others.
