“Forgive us our sins…”

Luke 11:4a
I know I am forgiven. However, I still recall an evening when I spoke deceptively to a close friend at whose house I happened to be spending the night. Once my head hit the pillow, sleep would not come. What made it worse was that I had to preach in church the next morning! I tried to justify my sin, but no relief came until early morning when I confessed my lie to God and then asked forgiveness from my friend, too.
Though the confessing wasn’t easy, the freedom that comes out of forgiveness followed. I could testify with David that “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away… For day and night your hand was heavy upon me… Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity…and you forgave the guilt of my sin” (Psalm 32:3-5).
You may be trying to cover up a sin or past crime. You may be trying to protect your pride. Your Father knows all and loves you enough to not give you inner peace and healing until you confess and make it right with Him and with those you may have hurt. Why not confess right now?
