“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”

Ephesians 1:11
The will of God is supreme over your will. As a prisoner, you are constantly at war with the will of those who control your life. With God, you don’t have to fight His will because His greatest desire is to love you and care for your soul. If you are a Christian, knowing this brings great relief and helps lift the burdens of guilt.

God works all things—your bad choices, your prison sentence, your discomfort, your fractured family, your sleepless nights—according to the purpose of His will. He is not operating according to the will of the correctional officer or the warden, of your spouse or your parent, of you or me. His will reigns supreme. That is the best news in the world for those who have a will corrupted by indwelling sin.

While we are busy working all things together for the purpose of our own will, God has been working all things—including our salvation—together for the sake of His perfect, holy will. When you pray, “Thy will be done,” you can do so trusting that the answer to this prayer will always be “yes!”
