“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

Psalm 23:6
The final verse of Psalm 23—perhaps one you have cherished—breathes out a deep sigh of contentment. All insecurity has been removed as the sheep have journeyed with the Shepherd. Dark valleys have been faced, traversed, and left behind as a testimony to the faithfulness of the Shepherd. The sheep are well fed. Their wounds are healed. Thus is the quiet confidence of those who have walked closely with Jesus for many years.

They have learned to recognize His voice and follow Him. Like clay being shaped, their faith was formed by His hand. Now it has set and hardened. They are secure and confident that the Shepherd will never leave them.

But what about the rest of us? Some of us are young in faith and untested. Some of us have been dragging our feet for years, stubbornly resistant to the guidance of the Shepherd. Regardless of where you are in your journey, there is only one way forward. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Listen for His voice. Obey Him and stay near. Surely goodness and love will pursue you all the days of your life.
