“To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.”

Colossians 1:29
How is it that “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” as Philippians 4:13 says? Although the concept is hard to understand, when we are doing what God has called us to do, His strength sustains us when we would otherwise give up.

A picture of this can be seen in Miracle League baseball, a program for participants of all disabilities. Every athlete is given a buddy to play with them in the game. Some buddies walk beside the player to guide and encourage. Other buddies assist with swinging a bat or by pushing a wheelchair. The athletes play the game through the buddy who gives them the help they need. They can play all aspects of baseball with their buddies’ assistance as needed for a successful game. Though an athlete may have difficulties, the buddy faithfully corrects and strengthens.

Christ has promised to never leave us in this world. He will give us what He knows we need to accomplish His purposes for our lives. Even when we stumble and struggle, He is ready to forgive and strengthen us to carry on His work, powerfully moving in us.

Insight

We want to rely on our human efforts, but the longer we walk with the Lord, the more we realize that apart from Him, we can do nothing (see John 15:5).
