"He will spend his days in prosperity, and his
descendants will inherit the land."
(PSALM 25:13)

Psalm 23
Living near to Jesus is a high calling that may mean giving up much. For many in our world it has meant brutal persecution that you and I can hardly bear to hear of. Some who live near to Jesus have surrendered loved ones, jobs, and reputations. But this is not a calling without reward. As I face stage-4 cancer and daily look into the faces of family members whom I’ll soon say good-bye to, I treasure the one thing I can hold onto: Jesus Christ. More accurately, He is holding onto me! And while He does so, I can release my tight grip on what I expected my life to be. Is there something you need to let go of so that you can grasp Jesus instead?

Walking close to Jesus in suffering can show any of us in our varied situations of brokenness how life is made beautiful in Him. Even after I leave this world, He’ll continue working out His promises in the lives of my children. I have spent many days “in prosperity,” and I know my little ones “will inherit” the great reward of a life lived
for Him.
