“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11
I’ve read about and have seen videos of elite alpine skiers who are blind. These skiers race down snow-covered mountains at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. But they don’t do this on their own. Behind each skier is another sighted skier who gives instructions through a wireless headset about the gates and the terrain. This system only works if the blind skier has absolute trust in the guide.

Since my stroke, my family and I have experienced the need for help from other Christians to guide us through the terrain of our new life. I’ve had to put a great deal of trust in those who help me. A wonderful result of this is that it has helped build up my trust in God.

I love recalling the Bible story of the paralytic man whose friends trusted God and carried him to Jesus to be healed. They even went so far as to lower him down through the roof before Jesus! It’s a beautiful reminder that those of us who struggle to trust and maybe even struggle to pray can have our trust increased through the guidance of other Christians.
