“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”

Philippians 4:11
Paul is a qualified teacher in the classroom of life. Though he was a Jewish scholar, taught under Gamaliel and trained in the law (see Acts 22:3), that information was not the center of his curriculum. Instead, it came from his experiences, beginning with his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Previously, he’d been physically and politically strong. After he met the risen Lord, he became weak and powerless, was jailed and hunted, and often had to flee for his life. Many times he depended on others to provide for him. Yet his writings are life-giving, full of hope and joy. How is this possible?

Jesus told parables—just simple stories, really—to explain the great worth of His kingdom. He spoke of treasure hidden in a field or a pearl of great price (Matthew 13:44-46.) When the treasure or the pearl is discovered, everything else is easily discarded. Paul found that treasure when he met Jesus.

Jesus declares that we too may come and find fullness and contentment in Him. It’s a treasure worth seeking after with all our heart!
