“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Psalm 11:3
The 2020 pandemic crashed in on our world, and our notions of “normal” were challenged. Medical advances and technology had led us to believe that we were in control. Prosperity had lulled much of the world into ignoring the reality of God. Even people of faith questioned how all of this could happen under the eyes of a Sovereign God. New health safety mandates changed life as we’d known it from our worship practices to our dining habits to our holiday traditions. We felt as David did: as if our “foundations are being destroyed.”

This brought loneliness and discouragement to many of us. I found comfort in following my pattern of personal worship. One day as I was praying, thoughts from Psalm 11 came to mind. What are we to do when the foundations are being destroyed? Remember that “the LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne” (v. 4).

We can embrace life even when its foundations are shaken because the Lord reigns. Living in the confines of a new reality is not so terrible when we hear His voice.
