“I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.”

Leviticus 26:12
Loneliness is at epidemic levels in our culture today, but we can dwell on this Leviticus verse where God promises to provide for and be among His people. He gives Himself, His blessing, His presence, and His guidance when we choose to follow Him over the long haul of life. We turn from evil, obey His commandments, grow through discipleship, and enjoy His fellowship. God looks on us with favor, and we know He is near, even walking among us.

The words of verse 13 beautifully remind God’s people that He brought them out of Egypt so that they “would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.”

This is exactly what God does for us as we confess our sin! He breaks and shatters any yoke or stronghold that Satan has over us. We are free and washed clean (see 1 John 1:9), made into new creations (see 2 Corinthians 5:17). He restores our joy, and we hold our heads high because God is with us always, promising that when we come near to Him, He comes near to us (see James 4:8).
