In her book, Disciplines of the Heart, Anne Ortlund raised a question you’ve probably asked yourself (perhaps even asked of yourself): “Why do so many Christians live struggling, carnal lives?” She went on to say that it is because they have not comprehended the vastness and power of Jesus Christ which is at work in them.
Life often feels out of control. Perhaps we’re setting our sights too low, trying to solve things on our own, content to live in sin. It is time we take Paul’s words to heart and grasp that the One who lives in us is able to do more in our lives that we ever could imagine or ever would dare ask.
When a little child knows his mommy or daddy is there, trusts his parent is good and wise, and has seen how strong his parent is, that little one will march into just about any situation with confidence. He knows who is behind him. That’s how confident we can be in Christ as we face the world’s problems. But we have even more than a strong and good Father behind us; we have His power at work in us!
