“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4
“Best and happiest of all, the time before him was his own, to make amends in!” After all that Scrooge had seen, this Christmas would be like no other, and he anticipated it with great pleasure! His delight had shifted from money to mercy, from self to serving. With his new heart, he was free to give to the poor, to provide for Tiny Tim, and to celebrate with his nephew, Fred–all with great joy.

The re-made Scrooge of Charles Dickens’ creation prompts us all to consider what we are delighting in right now. With Christmas a few days away, it can be easy for the joy of the season to be stolen by that frenzied feeling of trying to accomplish just one more task.

Perhaps this would be a good time to step back and ponder exactly what is really important. If your heart’s desire is to delight in what pleases the Lord, you can experience a spirit that is peaceful rather than chaotic. What freedom this could bring for a Christmas celebration like no other! Delighting in the Lord brings the greatest joy of all.
